Project

openbacktesting

Adds one entry to the existing Miscellaneous use case, without creating a section or displacing an existing project.

Project: https://github.com/lucidcog/openbacktesting
Documentation: https://docs.openbacktesting.com/

I am submitting on behalf of the OpenBacktesting project. It is a Python framework for single-asset, bar-by-bar historical backtesting with inspectable trades, pandas statistics, technical indicators, and grid or optional SAMBO parameter optimization. The public repository was created on 2026-10-12; independent adoption and production maturity are not established. It does not provide live execution, a multi-asset account, or a native AI/ML trading agent.

Checklist

  • I read CONTRIBUTING.md — awesome-python is a shortlist, not a catalog.
  • One project per PR.
  • PR title format: Add project-name.
  • Entry follows the linked name and sentence format.
  • Display name is the PyPI package name. The GitHub repository name is used; a public PyPI release has not been verified.
  • Placed in an existing use case.
  • Meets all Quality Requirements. The repository is less than one month old, and production readiness / established adoption are not demonstrated.

Which Tier

  • Obvious choice
  • Challenger with adoption-trajectory evidence

Neither status is claimed. This is an explicit early-stage submission for maintainer consideration despite the current age and adoption gaps; I understand it may be closed under the stated rules.

Displacement

No displacement is proposed. Miscellaneous currently has two entries. No claim is made that this library replaces either.

Validation: searched prior proposals, kept a single factual entry, and ran git diff --check.
