Big kudos for figuring out these LS and RIE-combined changes 🙇
Before we can merge this, we need to consider K8 compatibility and get @dfangl approval. We currently don’t have a way of versioning the Lambda RIE and updates need to be backwards-compatible if we don’t want to break enterprise usage of K8! This is not (yet) covered by any CI. Our suggested solution is outlined in DRG-327, but not yet implemented.
- I added this point to our next Lambda service owner sync
- Can we test the following two scenarios?
a) Older LocalStack version that doesn't passClientContextwith this new RIE optionally expectingClientContext
b) New LocalStack version that passesClientContextwith an old RIE that does not expectClientContext

This PR aims to tackle the following issue: localstack/localstack#11053
