this builds on top of #862, i'm pushing this just as a draft to demonstrate the feasibility of combining volume rendering and segmentation layers once we have a segment properties shader that unifies the coloring across all the views.
here's an example rendering that you can make of dense synapses colored by their IDs.. |

Thanks for putting this together and sharing the really nice images @fcollman! This looks cool, and would be a good way to see segmentation in 3D without requiring to have meshes or skeletons. I must admit I'm also glad to see the image volume rendering can be extended with pretty minimal changes in the volume rendering file itself |
