On my Debian-based (Linux Mint) system the native Steam client has two steamapps directories.
$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps$HOME/.steam/debian-installation/steamappsA symlink exists from
$HOME/.steam/steamto$HOME/.steam/debian-installationif that is preferred.
