Rationale

I'm the maintainer of both repositories. I kept adding more and more features to 'feathers-hooks-common' until I realised I want to add a few breaking changes. I also added more than 'hooks'. I added types, utils, etc. So I thought a new package would be a better way.

• feathers-hooks-common: esm & cjs
• feathers-utils: esm

install size:

• feathers-hooks-common: 5.6 MB total unpacked size
• feathers-utils: 714.1 kB total unpacked size

dependency count:

• feathers-hooks-common: 6
• feathers-utils: 5

Compatibility

There are a few API differences, but all should be documented here: https://utils.feathersjs.com/migrating-from-feathers-hooks-common.html

Also esm only and bumped minimum node.js version to 22 from 18.

FYI we have a 10k downloads/week threshold for new additions, also this issue should be marked as accepted before opening a PR for future reference.

given you maintain both packages, i'll wait for a 2nd opinion from @ghostdevv or @dreyfus92. if team agrees, we can skip the threshold

+1 from me on skipping the threshold here, it's the official successor under the feathersjs org and feathers-hooks-common hasn't had a release since jul 2024.
