i went back and forth on this one. Intl.Collator is definitely what you want when you're sorting things for a person to look at, but i don't think we can present it as a drop-in for these packages.

the thing that worries me: with sensitivity: 'base' the collator says 'a' and 'A' are equal, same with '1' and '01'. and the output depends on the machine's locale, ['z', 'ä'] sorts one way on an english system and the other way on a swedish one.

that matters because the biggest users of natural-compare are eslint rules and jest snapshots. a sort-keys rule that passes on my laptop and fails in ci because of the os locale would be a nightmare to debug.

so maybe the entry should say both things? collator for user facing sorting (where it's genuinely better), and inlining the function (~40 lines, no deps) when you need output that's identical everywhere.

natural-compare and javascript-natural-sort don't agree with each other either (file-2 vs file_1 flips), might be cleaner as two separate entries.
