Background

This rolls up the changes since v202608.

Changes

  1. The emissions logic has migrated from one based upon GLAD GLCLUC to one using TCL/GPW/GACED30 (see the methodology for more details)
  2. Descals oil palm is used to extend the GACED30 global crop mask
  3. Dropped emissions -- which have not been allocated to any destination layer (i.e., cropland or pastureland) -- are now tracked explicitly in attribute and trace outputs.
  4. Loads of other changes including QOL changes to streamline global backfills

Validation

  • The Indonesia oil palm issue is now resolved -- the EF moved from 0.008 to 0.429 times the WRI value
  • Six of the seven SLUC-divided-by-WRI baselines rose, moving five closer to parity (PRY|SOYB: 0.067 -> 0.341; BRA|SOYB: 0.19 -> 0.441) but AGO|MAIZ overshot to 1.761 and CAF|MAIZ fell to 0.261
  • Internally, S and JD shifted substantially relative to each other, leaving overall agreement no better or worse. S estimates production 10-30% lower and emissions anywhere from 27% lower (RICE) to 184% higher (SUGC)
