fix: keep shell integration cd completions literal - #227
The Bash wrapper generated by git gtr init bash passed raw branch names to compgen -W. Completing a branch containing valid $() or backtick syntax could execute that content. Filter newline-delimited candidates with a quoted literal prefix instead, preserving branch names and returning successfully when there are no matches.
Bump the shell-integration cache schema from 9 to 10 so cached helpers are regenerated. Add six regression tests using real disposable worktrees, including harmless marker-file payloads, ordinary prefixes, the main-worktree alias, custom wrapper names, empty prefixes, and unmatched replies under set -e.
Motivation
Addresses bug-scan finding #2 (6c91209d-bb8f-4e69-be3f-f12591d389ba) in the shell-integration completion path.
Type of Change
Bug fix (non-breaking)
Testing
On the rebased branch, all 138 tests in tests/init.bats and tests/config_safety.bats passed on macOS, including the six new regressions and cache upgrades from schema 9. The payload tests failed against the original implementation and pass with this fix.
ShellCheck passed for both entrypoints, libraries, commands, and adapters after rebasing onto ce66bb3.
scripts/generate-completions.sh --check and git diff --check passed.
The earlier full-suite run on parent 7077fa9 covered all 32 BATS files with isolated global Git configuration: 711 passed, 6 failed. All six failures also reproduced on untouched 7077fa9: three in cmd_pr.bats, two in debug_trap.bats, and one in platform.bats. The full suite was not repeated after rebasing; the affected integration and configuration-safety suites were rerun instead.
Bash 3.2 smoke test passed before rebasing: generate and syntax-check the integration, create a worktree, complete its branch name, navigate to it and back, list worktrees, and remove it.
Breaking Changes
None. The implementation uses Bash 3.2-compatible built-ins and introduces no dependencies.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Shell completions for Git worktrees now handle branch names containing characters such as $() and backticks literally.
Completions now replace outdated suggestions and correctly handle empty or unmatched prefixes.
The generated Bash cd completion now filters worktree names with literal prefix matching instead of passing them to compgen -W. The init cache schema changes from 9 to 10. Tests cover literal candidates, completion edge cases, and cache regeneration.
Completion filters newline-delimited worktree names by the current prefix. Tests cover command-substitution-looking names, ordinary and empty prefixes, the main-worktree alias, custom wrapper names, stale replies, and unmatched replies under set -e.
The completion and cache changes preserve their intended contracts, with no actionable merge risk identified.
Security architecture risk: Minimal · up to 5006b
The change reduces command-execution exposure during Bash completion without expanding access or privileges. Normal initialization rejects older cached helpers and regenerates the corrected implementation. No material security risk introduced or worsened by this PR was identified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The relevant attacker-controlled input is a branch name present in a local worktree listing. The prior expansion sink ran inside the user's Bash completion process, making the potential exposure the completing user's local authority rather than a newly privileged service or cross-tenant interface.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — The inspected source comparison removes the prior path from branch-name data to shell-expanding compgen -W. No introduced or materially worsened security attack path was identified within the changed completion and cache-invalidation flow.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The replacement preserves candidate text with read -r and quoted array insertion. Quoting the user prefix in the case pattern prevents prefix metacharacters from becoming matching instructions; clearing COMPREPLY prevents stale replies from surviving a no-match result.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Fresh output is emitted before best-effort cache publication, so a cache-write failure does not suppress that output. Publication remains non-atomic: interruption or a concurrent reader can expose a matching header with an incomplete body. This inherited limitation is unchanged by the PR; truncation prevents that write from preserving the previous unsafe body. Interrupted and concurrent publication are not directly covered by the inspected tests.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "fix: keep shell integration cd completions literal" matches the main change. The PR changes the generated Bash wrapper so that worktree completion candidates are filtered by a quoted literal prefix instead of being passed to compgen -W, which evaluated shell expansions. The title names the bug class (fix), the affected feature (shell integration cd completions), and the intended behavior (literal). The title is concise, specific, and free of file lists or vague terms. The cache schema bump and regression tests are supporting changes that the title does not need to mention.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 50.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 2 functions across 2 files.

Autofix · Keep fixing CodeRabbit findings and required CI, and resolving merge conflicts
A rabbit checks each branch by name, No shell surprise can join the game. The matches line up with the prefix, And stale replies are swept away. Cache ten brings helpers up to date, While empty matches exit straight. The rabbit hops along its way.
