Remote sessions take ~2 minutes to load on a phone

Thanks for Plannotator. I use it daily and it makes my life easier.

A cold session takes about two minutes before the document shows on my phone, even on 5G.

I review a lot from my phone (iPhone 17 Air): the Mac serves the session and the phone reaches it with --tailscale.

Same cause as #926, where a load takes seconds on loopback. Over a tunnel it takes minutes: each session serves the whole app as one uncompressed file (25 MB for plans, 18 MB for code review), and each session is a new port, so nothing is cached.

Cold loads of main, throttled to my phone's tunnel speed (206 KB/s, 159 ms):

Thanks @giladbarnea, and for the measurements. Agreed: each session sends the whole app uncompressed on a fresh port, so nothing caches and a tunnel pays the full 18–25 MB every time. Compressing the app page on the fly is the obvious first step, and we'll look at that. We'll reply here.

Thanks again @giladbarnea. First step is merged in #1619 and ships in the next release: remote-mode and --tailscale sessions now send the app compressed (brotli over HTTPS/--tailscale, gzip over plain http), and we dropped KaTeX font formats no browser needs. Measured cold loads throttled to your link (206 KB/s, 159 ms): plan review 118 s → ~30 s over --tailscale (~34 s in plain remote mode), code review 86 s → ~21 s (~24 s). Local sessions are unchanged. The bigger fix, splitting the app into chunks so a phone only downloads what it needs, measured around 5–7 s on the same link; we're keeping this issue open for that. Separately, 206 KB/s at 159 ms looks like Tailscale is relaying your phone through a DERP server rather than a direct connection; tailscale ping <your-mac> will show whether it's going direct.
