I am writing this to tell myself and my kids, 20 years from now:

I am currently very confused about Artificial Intelligence. As a software engineer, here is my true feeling about using AI in my daily work and personal life:

I firmly believe that AI in the future (sooner or later) will replace software engineers (maybe you will think I am wrong); this occupation will become history. The current stage is more like when human beings started to learn how to use electricity, but electricity could also cause accidents. It is not stable, because we are exploring this new technology day by day.

At the moment, many news articles and posts express two different views. One side believes AI will be able to take over from humans, write production-ready code, work on a variety of projects, and even maintain itself through multi-agent-based agentic workflows. Another view is also reasonable: AI cannot replace human brains, because humans design programs and write more readable, well-designed code logic. At the very beginning, AI can create some fancy projects, but as days go by and new requirements are added, AI starts to produce code that is less structured and hard to maintain.

As a software engineer, my true feeling is that both views are right, and both have solid practical evidence.

However, my current question is: do we really need to keep learning programming anymore? Is it possible that in the future, humans will design an AI-dedicated programming language, and each agent will be able to self-learn and then write agentic-style code to help humans complete tasks? What is the purpose of writing code? We write code to build something, right? Then, if we build something, do we build it ourselves, or do we create a tool and use that tool to achieve our goal? Or is it a hobby? I extremely enjoy writing code; I am creating something I am proud of.

I keep thinking about these questions, and as of 30/09/2026, I still have no idea which view is correct or what the right answer to those questions is. The answer is unknown so far.

Thus, I decided to go half AI (do repetitive jobs; find new skills, tools, and technologies to enhance work efficiency) and half hand-coding (think about how to resolve business pain points and issues, and design programs, refactor code, etc.).
