Sergey Romanenko

Explorer · Photographer · Creator · Engineer

I work across software, education, photography, and independent creative projects. Driven by curiosity, I explore how things work, build practical solutions, share knowledge, and document the world around me.

My interests extend beyond a single profession or discipline. I enjoy moving between technical challenges and creative exploration, combining engineering thinking with visual storytelling and a constant desire to learn something new.

What I Do

Software Engineering

I have been developing software since the early 2000s, working across different programming languages, technologies, and development environments.

My experience includes frontend engineering, application architecture, API integrations, automation, testing, localization, and independent software development.

I enjoy understanding complex systems, exploring architectural approaches, and building solutions that are practical, maintainable, and reusable.

Open Source & Developer Tools

I develop and maintain open-source projects, create developer utilities, and experiment with new approaches to software development.

I believe in sharing knowledge and building tools that other people can inspect, use, adapt, and improve.

My work spans PHP, JavaScript, frontend technologies, content management systems, and various development tools.

Education & Knowledge Sharing

I create programming courses, educational publications, practical exercises, and learning resources.

Through my teaching work on Stepik, I help students understand programming concepts and develop practical skills across multiple technologies, including SQL, JavaScript, Python, PHP, Go, Kotlin, Java, and C#.

I believe that good education should go beyond memorizing syntax. It should help people understand how things work and become independent problem-solvers.

Photography & Visual Storytelling

Photography is another way I explore the world.

I work with street, travel, portrait, and documentary photography, capturing people, places, architecture, and everyday moments.

My personal photographic projects explore human experiences, identity, belonging, distance, memory, and the relationship between people and the places they inhabit.

Independent Projects

I enjoy building things independently, experimenting with ideas, and turning interesting problems into working products.

My projects include digital tools, educational platforms, publications, photography-related utilities, and logic games.

I value curiosity, creative freedom, simplicity, and the opportunity to take an idea from its first experiment to a finished product.

Background

My professional journey began with computer engineering and early software development. Over the years, I worked in software engineering and frontend development, including experience as a Senior Frontend Developer in an international technology company.

Alongside engineering, I explored photography, creative production, mentoring, and online education.

Today, I continue to develop independent projects while exploring new technologies, creating educational content, and documenting the world through photography.

Beyond the Screen

I am a digital nomad and an explorer at heart.

Traveling allows me to experience different cultures, meet people, discover unfamiliar places, and look at familiar things from new perspectives.

I believe curiosity is one of the most valuable qualities a person can have. It keeps us learning, creating, questioning, and moving forward.

For me, technology and photography are simply two different ways of understanding the world.
