I’m not sure whether it would be possible to create runtime IMG containers.
For example, imagine you have a folder that contains the models, and you could load that folder as if it were an IMG container. In GTA V, there’s a similar system where you don’t necessarily have to put models into an .rpf archive, FiveM can load them directly from folders.
Updating models would become much easier, because right now if your container is several hundred MB and you replace just one file, every player has to download the entire container again.
This would also save bandwidth for the servers.
