Initiative description
Currently, kubecon is quite intimidating for newcomers to the ecosystem, especially students. While there is a Cloud Native Novice track, it doesn't necessarily cover the full scope of basics a student may want to know to understand other talks at kubecon.
We would like to, through the hopefully reactived TCG for students, provide a virtual conference like event a month or two before kubecon to address this. We will have a set of 8-12 "101" level talks, on topics we decide students should know, such as what is a container, what is observability, etc.
Deliverable(s) or exit criteria
The deliverable of this initiative is the virtual conference ahead of KubeCon. We are hoping to trial this ahead of KubeCon NA 2026, and depending on what does/does not work run an updated version ahead of KubeCon EU 2027. If this seems like a hit, we can expand to cover other KubeCons.
