The idea is to have a borg2 "beta" soon, around google summer of code midterm evaluations.
Considering the big changes due to @mr-raj12's packs work (and also some other stuff), this might be rather experimental / alpha quality though - but people know they must not use betas for production.
Also, for the same reasons, it will need creation of new repositories - it is not compatible with previous beta repositories (nor is there migration support beta-to-beta).
The point of that beta is to get early feedback from beta-testers while work on finishing packs support is ongoing after that beta.
