It's not unusual for devices to transmit identifiers different from markings on the device itself. The receive bandwidth of the radio has no effect on the content of received messages. Messages are validated by a checksum, received messages are either valid, or invalid, with very low false-positive rate. |

I am attempting to read Elster R2S electric meters.
I am receiving what appear to be correct SCM packets. However most of the meter IDs are implausible. They should be in the range of 1xxxxxxx but read 4xxxxxxx or 5xxxxxxx. I know what the IDs should be because they are part of a utility system I am familiar with.
The consumption data seems reasonable - increasing at a reasonable rate.
Could it be that I am not reading all of the information due to some of the channels being outside my bandwidth? I am using an RTL-SDR V4. The meters are all part of a mesh network.
