The UN DESA dataset only gives rates stratified by age and sex. To have more accurate mortality rates, we need stratification by age, sex, and race.
Describe the solution you'd like
Instead of only using the UN DESA dataset for ages 85+, we will acquire an implied mortality rate for ages 85+ from both CDC products which have county mortality rates available for the ten-year age group stratified by race/ethnicity and sex. From there, we will calculate a scaling factor such that the implied mortality rates from UN DESA match the mortality rates for the CDC product, and multiply the mortality rates by the scaling factor for each race/ethnicity and sex. This will produce age, sex, and race specific mortality rates.
