Summary

The Patterns 2.0 team met on 4 June 2026 to review the first pattern submitted and generated via the new contribution workflow, discuss the integration of AI patterns into the published catalogue, and agree on next priorities for the project. The team confirmed the contribution workflow is functioning, agreed that AI patterns should be integrated into the existing catalogue rather than published separately, and identified skill file development as the key next workstream.

Key Discussions

First AI-generated pattern (Paula's design pattern)

• Paula submitted a design-focused pattern through the new Notion-based contribution form, which was processed through the green software pattern skill
• The team discussed appropriate granularity for design patterns (one pattern vs. two), and the consensus was that fewer, broader patterns are preferable given the current catalogue structure
• Paula noted the skill initially produced overly technical output; Russ confirmed the skill has since been updated with design-focused examples and lifecycle-aware guidance
• The review and approval process was confirmed: submitter approves generated output, then a team member (Liya or Franzi) provides final review before publication

AI patterns integration

• The team discussed whether AI patterns should live in the existing catalogue or a separate site; consensus favoured integration to avoid silos and dual maintenance
• AI lifecycle phases (training, inference, etc.) are to be surfaced via improved tag-based navigation rather than structural separation
• Russ will investigate what is technically feasible within the current Docusaurus build
• Juan Rubio (Schneider Electric) shared work his team is doing on a green software maturity/scoring framework with five dimensions (measurement and telemetry, energy and efficiency, carbon intensity, design, CI/CD), and proposed this as a potential framework to track decarbonisation progress alongside pattern adoption

Skill files and future tooling

• The team discussed a "skill file per SDLC lifecycle category" approach — one skill file per high-level category that agents can use to identify relevant patterns and make recommendations
• Naveen proposed a community skills repository, bootstrapped with two or three seed skill files, open for community contribution
• Green AI Committee input was identified as important for ensuring initial skill files meet expert standards
• Reference was made to existing community work (Francisco/Green Software Champions) building skills connected to the patterns and SCI

Key Decisions

• Paula's design pattern to proceed through the standard two-step review process (submitter approval → team review → publication)
• AI patterns to be integrated into the existing Patterns 2.0 catalogue via PRs, not published on a separate site
• AI lifecycle phases to be surfaced via tag-based navigation improvements rather than structural site changes
• Next focus for the project: individual pattern quality improvement, harmonisation, and skill file development
