Describe the issue

Hi, i’m aware that psbbn does not support modchips and i will be disabling it when i want to use psbbn. i have an NTSC-J SCPH 55000-GT, on which i wanna play my NTSC-U games. the reason i got this console was because i planned on modchipping it for a full region unlock since mechapwn wont fully region unlock the ps1 games for me (my main requirement) and i also wanted to use psbbn. Are there any plans in the future to get more support for consoles that have modchips? i absolutely love the work you’re doing and have no qualms with the current decision to not support modchips, whether it be by necessity or otherwise. just curious :) thank you so much for all the hard work you and everyone are doing for PSBBN!!

It's not my decision to not support mod chips, it's the modchip maker's decision to not support PSBBN. With a modchip enabled, you will not be able to launch any games or apps from within PSBBN as the modchip interferes with the boot process and prevents the PSBBN bootloader from correctly processing boot parameters. There is no way to get around that with software, the issue is the modchip.

Personally, I have a SCPH-50001 console that's been softmodded with MechaPwn, combined with PSBBN DP, that makes the console completely region free for PS1 and PS2 games, and allows backups to be played, and does not cause any compatibility issues.

MechaPwn can make any SCPH-5xxxx console region free for PS2 games. If you want to be region free for PS1 games too, you need a US or Asian SCPH-5xxxx console (i.e. not PAL and Japanese). Again, this is a hardware issue and there's no getting around that with software.

bummer! hopefully in the future these chips start supporting PSBBN but i won’t get my hopes up. thank you so much for the info! for now ill just disable the chip to use PSBBN o7

What I would recommend is getting a motherboard from a SCPH-50001 and transplanting it into that nice white case. It's very easy to do, much easier than installing a modchip. That's exactly what I did, I imported the board from the US, as it was much cheaper than buying an entire console.

IDK what modchip you guys use, but with matrix you can just turn the ps2 on holding start and the modchip disables itself until next full reboot. Worked here and i can play games with PSBBN normally

i think at worst i will just have to alter what buttons psbbn uses at boot :p it’ll probably be fine. haven’t looked into it quite yet as i’ve been very busy but when i have the time ill look into that. i assume thats not too difficult and probably just in a config file in PSBBN

Yep, disabling the modchip at startup works. If your console supports MechaPwn, it's still the better solution.

You can easily reassign boot keys using the included OSDMenu Configurator app.
